Juneteenth, derived from combining “June” and “nineteenth,” celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth is widely observed throughout the United States and was declared a federal holiday in 2021. 3rd Annual Juneteenth Campout with Joe McGill

This overnight event features storyteller and Civil War re-enactor Joe McGill who will regale you with tales and conversation around the campfire about life and culture in Mitchelville, great fun for those who love history.

Drum Circle at the Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Hilton Head Island

This free event gives the public a chance to see a real live drum circle to celebrate Juneteenth with the sounds of African American roots. Enjoyable for all ages!

Hilton Head Annual Juneteenth Celebration

When:                June 17, 2023 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Where:              Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park on Hilton Head Island, SC

This annual community event is one to attend! Along with a reading of the emancipation proclamation, there will also be live music and food vendors.

CFTA Juneteenth Fine Arts Festival

When:                June 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm
Where:              Forsyth Park in Savannah, GA

Arts & Crafts, Food Vendors, live music, dancers, speakers, and more round out this colorful and spirited festival. Just a hop and skip over from Hilton Head, and sure to be a wonderful time.
