You are the type of person who loves stories. You love mystery and intrigue, especially in your own life. To you, a vacation isn’t a vacation unless you can amaze your friends with stories about something they’ve never heard about before. You seek out the truly unusual everywhere you go. It goes without saying that you want to find the same here in Hilton Head. Here are some perfect out-of-the-way spots you can visit during your trip to Hilton Head.
Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge
Pinckney Island is the ideal place to both see some incredible wildlife and get in a good hiking or biking workout. You’ll find nature is beautifully preserved here, which is perfect for allowing the animals to live in their natural habitat. Keep in mind that this means there are no buildings for shelter, bathrooms, or water fountains, so be sure to pick a good weather day to visit and come prepared.
Sheldon Church Ruins
History lovers can’t miss this tucked-away nook in the peaceful nearby town of Yemassee, SC. Sheldon Church was built in the 1740s, and the first service was performed there in 1757. However, the church was burned down during the American Revolution. It was rebuilt in 1825, but then burned down again during the Civil War. Come visit the beautiful remains. (Keep in mind, however, that the church rests on private property.)
Audubon Newhall Preserve
Although this spot is not out of the way or off in the distance, it is a great place to come with the family. With plenty of picnic spots, guided trails with marked examples of flora, and trails of varying distances, you should be able to find something to make everyone happy.
The things you see in Hilton Head may not be what everyone is flocking to see, but that’s exactly why you want to go. After all, how many of your friends would be on the edge of their seats to hear about the four hours of golf you played?
