You don’t have to be in the Northeast to find a good St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Though Boston may be known for its Irish roots, many cities across the country find themselves a little luck on March 17th. And Hilton Head, SC, is one of them. If being a little Irish is high on your list during your stay in Hilton Head, read on for the celebrations you can’t miss.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Rain or Shine, the show will go on. You just need to decide if you want to sit and watch the parade go by, or if you want to make a float and be a part of the parade too. If you decide to enter a float, you have the opportunity to win one of many awards, such as the Leprechaun Award or the Irish Heritage Award for most entertaining homemade floats. Either way, be prepared to enjoy the parade with around 25,000 others, including a possible celebrity or two.

Ferry to Savannah

Once you have enjoyed the parade (being held on Sunday March 11th this year), enjoy a trip to over to Georgia for the day. Travel in style by way of a ferry from the Broad Creek Marina. Once the ferry docks on River Street in Savannah, you have the option of getting off to join the crowd, or staying on board to enjoy the festivities from the water. Either way, the boat will be waiting to get you safely back to Hilton Head when you’ve finished your exploration.

Most of the local eateries and watering holes around the island will have specials that relate to the day of the Irish, so you’ll want to be sure to make time for a night out while you visit. By renting bikes, you can get wherever you want to go with ease. Take a look at our inventory and start planning now for your trip!
